Starting to take shape
With a credit card and a wrench most people with a little mechanical ability can assemble a pre engineered pre
cut hot rod frame, but this is not a model A. Once again I had to get myself in the right frame of mind and did so
quickly. From that point on I didn’t question what I was doing, I just went for it. The objective was to make it
safe and make it strong, if I was going to err, it would be on the side of over engineering.
Starting with 2x3 square steel tube, this stuff is stronger than the material used for a 3/4 ton truck chassis, I began
to lay out the new chassis on the garage floor. Using a steel cutting blade in a skill saw, a mig welder, a large
framing square and a car sized jig as primary tools.
I was surprised how easy it went together and how strong it became, because the car started life at around 1,500 pounds,
weight was not an issue I ever considered. It was built for strength and safety. After all does it really make a
difference if your 500 Horse Power car weighs 1,500 or 1,700 pounds?
